The first semester of the curriculum addresses four units.
Unit 1 is entitled Number System Fluency. Students will learn to divide fractions and multi-digit numbers; add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals; find GCF and LCM; and make sense of the distributive property. The standards addressed are MGSE6.NS.1, NS.2, NS.3, and NS.4.
Unit 2 is entitled Rate, Ratio, and Proportional Reasoning using Equivalent Fractions. Students will find ratio, rate, unit rates, equivalent ratios, percent of a quantity, and ratio reasoning to convert measurement units. The standards addressed are MGSE6.RP.1, RP.2, RP.3a-d.
Unit 3 is entitled Expressions. Students will identify parts of an expression, writing and evaluating variable expressions, evaluating expressions using order of operations, and writing equivalent expressions. The standards addressed MGSE6.EE.1, EE.2, EE.3, EE.4.
Unit 4 is entitled One Step Equations and Inequalities. Students will write and solve equations and inequalities, analyze dependent and independent variables using tables, graphs, and equations, and use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real world and mathematical problems. The standards addressed are MGSE6.EE.5, EE.6, EE.7, EE.8, EE.9, RP.3a-d.
